Dear Brother and Sister Rangers,
So after a week of travel, I finally reached Blackdawn City and this place is amazing! It's enormous. Everything is big, the buildings, the people, the food and the drink. People are everywhere. Scattered in the streets like busy ants, scurrying to and fro. Everyone here looks different too. Elves and Dwarves and Humans. Some are dressed in the bright colorful garb, some are in the most shimmering armor, and others seem to almost have nothing on. First thing I tried to do was make some friends but, everyone here seems so busy. They mostly grunt or look away when I say hello. I hope I make a friend soon so he or she can show me their ways.
After doing some sight-seeing I decided to find one of those local pubs I heard so much about from all of you at home. I found one called The Moldy Cellar. The place was packed. People standing and sitting, singing and shouting, whispering and dicing. I overheard one gentleman talking about getting some people together to find a missing girl. I am thinking of helping but, I think some stew first.
Before I made it to the barkeep, some fine fellows offered to play some dicing games. Finally my chance to speak with a local! Apparently, all I had to do was roll a bigger number than theirs then I could buy points with some of my silvers. If I doubled their number then I buy even more points with my gold. I bought all of the points I could and beat them! I did so well. They were very friendly but, quick to pick up the game and move on. They didn't even get mad that I beat them. Very fine fellows indeed.
Well it turns out the gold and silver pieces Jarro gave me, are really important here, and I just traded them all for points. The barkeep won't let me eat anything without them. He wouldn't even take trade or kitchen work. He even stopped talking to me and walked away. I think I insulted him. Oh, well. I'll go see if I could help find the missing girl. Maybe I could trade for some silvers or better yet some cornbread!
They left. I was too late. Everyone here is so fast and busy. I have decided to leave and explore more. Maybe I can find another Wood Elf like myself to befriend.
I JUST SAW A GIANT MURDER A MAN. We are hiding right now with his friends in the ruins of some large building. We ran when some angry folk started screaming. I am so scared. I didn't want to be around when they see what this bear-of-a-man did to that guy. He has friends too, and seeing that they had the same idea, I went with them. It now is clear to me that they also didn't know where they were going. Now one of their lady companions is trying to talk us out of this mess. What have I gotten into? City life is hard!
So it's hard to write right now while we are ducking and running. I need to get this down when I can because in a few moments I may not even be alive. It turns out that the screaming angry men are guards. The girl, Elena, talked us out of the earlier mess. She is very sparkly. Bear-man's name is Valraukar, which is really quite friendly. There is a drunken Drow by the name of Tecuani and is somehow still drinking. A girl named Blank (or is a Blank or drew a Blank? Need to find out before I offend her.) Lastly a man that keeps talking to someone or something. I can't quite figure out if it's me. He goes by Bilkin.
So a long story short, someone needs a scratch or drug or an itch to scratch. We went back to the dead guy even though the guards didn't want us to. The Blank girl drop kicked a window. Lots of yelling. Blank got a knee in her back and Valraukar grabbed his weapon. I got scared, made sure I was on the Bear's side and shot the guard off the girl. Bilkin yells guards are on our side, this time I think he was talking to me. Lamp blows up and light goes out. I yell that we should run. Torch and magic moon came on. Light is back. Drunken man is getting hit by arrows and doesn't seem to feel them. He cuts a man in half. Elena runs. I follow. Soon the others follow. We are heading towards the woods now. No clue why, but I know I will feel much more comfortable there. This place moves so fast!
I guess I will soon find out if these folk are friends.
To be continued......
