So you may remember I made mention of a system I was homebrewing that was specific to a setting. It had very limited HP, magic was hard to learn and do (with spells taking longer to cast the higher level they were), and it was very focused on details; what you could do with monster remains, whether you could use part of a monster as an ingredient to a potion, and so on.
It turns out I was basically writing 2nd edition AD&D from scratch without even knowing it.
About 2 weeks ago, in another one of my insane drives to learn a system, I got all of 2nd edition, and started reading it. The further I read, the more I loved it and the more familiar it felt. Every phrasing had a similar ring to the phrasings I used in my homebrewed rules on Google Drive. And when I finally got to combat and magic, I realized they were essentially the same.
So yeah, that project was scrapped in favor of just learning 2e which seems to fit my needs for that setting very neatly.
Moral of the story: if you're homebrewing rules, take a look at existing systems, you might be unknowingly reusing them.

I think I remember you saying something about a new system. It was probably during one of those post game chats when I stopped paying attention to the chat and started looking up random pictures.
