No, no, don't cancel the game! It's just me that can't make it, plus it's unfair to wayword (Daksy) and everyone else that CAN make it.

Hmm... I guess we could Npc him. What's everyone else's opinion?

I'd like to play of course, but that goes without saying.
I'm not certain about NPCing him, I'm not sure any of us know the character well enough to portray, if we just want him for combat it may be easier (and safer) to rebalance the combat for 1 less character than give the GM one more thing to worry about or put his brand new character's life in someone else's hands.

I could have Olek run off on his own thing and come back wherever it is that next session stops. Maybe a side adventure through messaging here with Corey?

I'll echo Colin and say I'd like to play. Daksy has SO many things she's been saving up to say while you all had her bound and gagged while dragging her to Addler... But Corey if you have a lot of stuff you need to do and had gotten your heart set on having Thursday night, then maybe better for all of us if you get your papers done and not be distracted?

Don't give him an excuse, D&D with total strangers is WAY more important than real life responsibilities.

I think it's usually best if we play anyways when we are missing somebody. This doesn't mean we must continue the campaign. Instead, we can just goof off, roll up a fight with badguys or do whatever. It could be a chance for Corey to play a character if he wants, or folks to try out alt characters. If all we do is roll dice against goblins, it's worth it. If we punt every time somebody doesn't show up, we'll never keep the group together.
If Corey doesn't want to GM on nights like this, other players who want to try a hand GMing can roll an encounter for the rest of us. We could find ways make it worthwhile. I've got a new setup I'm hoping to playtest sometime soon, and this kind of situation would be ideal for doing that. Shrug.

That's a good point Chris, I haven't played a lot of 5e so some practice fight, situation or encounter could be helpful. If we wanted to get really fancy with it someone could put together a 1-shot for times like this or just goof around.

If all we do is roll dice against goblins, it's worth it. If we punt every time somebody doesn't show up, we'll never keep the group together. In a perfect world the group would stay together, but its inevitable that people will leave, and its inevitable that the game might not go on every week. Whatever the case, the core group has stayed together for two years and we're not about to fall apart from a missed week. We're really hoping you guys stay around and create new memories with us! The only concern I have about running tonight is that without Olek, Jaz will also be affected. The gnome is so interconnected with Olek's presence that I wouldn't foresee him separating from the fighter yet. Regardless, we'll go ahead and play tonight and leave Olek at the crypt entrance to ensure that no one comes in. It would be nice to play a character from time to time too. Perhaps in between my missions we can set up other characters to play in someone else's game. That could be an awesome change of pace!

Right on, Corey. I plan to show up tonight, in hopes of hanging out. I completely agree that it'd be disappointing to head into the Crypt without Olek, so tabling the campaign tonight makes perfect sense. For those of us who want to gather tonight, maybe we can set up alt characters or kill some monsters, or even just plot out options for "off-night" gameplay situations. I'm happy to GM an encounter (Kobolds, anyone?), if that's what folks want to do.

Ok, so first decision:
Are we playing with these characters tonight or making alts?

I'm willing to run the actual first floor of the crypt tonight. If you guys don't want to do it without Olek, then we can use these characters to do a few random encounters.
And like Chris said, if you guys just want to hang out and figure other stuff out, that's fine too.
Also, you could all just role play a camp out type scene where you all just converse. Or I could bring in another NPC for a sidequest before you go into the crypt. Its up to you guys.
