Horrified Mamael lashed out in an attempt to save himself and by some turn of fate sliced out one of Koraboros’ eyes allowing him to escape severely burned but alive.
From that point on intense resentment grew in Mamael at his fathers foolishness and weakness. Once again struggling for scrape out a life for himself he left behind his family name and became Saafir Duskmantle. His odd physical appearance and strange powers are a result of the Devil eye which he encased in black resin and crafted onto a chain that he keeps on him at all times. Over time the eye drained his skin and eyes of color just as it healed his scars to the point that they have taken on the look of ghostly tattoos or brands upon his skin.
