If your being productive, and you do it again, are you being reproductive? I guess it depends on what you were doing...

Doesn't matter to me. I like figures, but I also like the original concept of using that website to draw our characters and the use them as tokens, back in Ye Olde Dayse

I submit that token style should depend on what gameboard situation you're using.
If it's a basic gameboard style battle map, playing with full theatre of the mind, I enjoy using a full profile picture for tokens in game, where you can see most of the body. One approach is to add a kind of playing card border around the profile picture, along with the character name superimposed on the token. There's a bit of stylization, but the images will pop from the screen a bit.
If the player tokens need to be smaller (i.e. because you're playing on maps and grids), I like to take a head-shot image of a profile picture, crop it into a round shape and put a bordered-ring around it. This way the image doesn't blend into the design of the map. This makes it easier to see everyone's tokens. In games I GM, I will use a grey ring around player tokens, and red rings around npc/monster tokens.

I like that card idea, that's really cool. I tended to use the circle portraits in games I've run since they're easy to make (app that does it here: www.rptools.net/?page=tokentool) I put a blue square around the token I like in-game.

In past games, the players used the character creator to design their characters. I would take headshots of those pictures to create a square design for the token. We've also used figures from Devin Knight but we moved away from them.
This time around we'll use pictures that you've created or chosen. Please upload your chosen picture into your character sheet in Roll20 and I'll take a headshot of it and make your token. I think most of you have done so already. I prefer squares just because they fit into the squares on the battle maps.

Here is my portrait and token. I made the token square, as requested. Nothing special. If anyone wants their portrait/token styled like this one, I'm happy to make one. I've just got a template set up.
